This dive site is two dives in one. For the first dive, enter the water via the concrete steps just south of MaST Aquarium and do a short surface swim to the end of the aquarium building. Descend and head out head straight out along the rope to find several several small boats at approximately 85’. Look for lots of marine life under and around the boats, including Copper rockfish, Buffalo sculpin, and Giant Pacific Octopus.
You can make a great second dive entering the water north of Salty’s restaurant and swimming underwater to the pipe boat. Then follow the rope parallel to shore past several artificial reefs until you find the remnants of an old Volkswagen Beetle. Under the Volkswagen Beetle is a den where Giant Pacific Octopus will often times hang out. Head back along the line, looking our for Sailfin sculpin and Penpoint gunnel. Finish the dive with a safety stop in the eel grass beds around 15′-20′ looking for crab, perch, and Tube snouts. During night dives, Red octopus, Stubby squid, and Pacific spiny lumpsucker can also be seen.
Redondo Beach has a city owned pay parking lot across the street, and restrooms are next to the fishing pier. There is also a freshwater shower along the side of the restrooms available in the summer months for gear rinsing. Salty’s Restaurant next door offers fish & chips to go with the warm weather months for a post dive meal.
